Portland City Commissioner Dan Ryan voted against against defunding the police and tonight he heard from the people. A crowd of peaceful protesters marched on his home expressing their outrage. They stood outside his house chanting Black Lives Matter slogans until the police that he voted to keep funding declared the protest an unlawful assembly and shut it down. This protest was a direct response to Ryan breaking his campaign promise to support defunding the police. San Jose Officer William Gerry Arrested for Sex Assault by Extortion

Former San Jose Code Enforcement Officer William Gerry was arrested yesterday for sexual assault by extortion. Gerry is accused of blackmailing local massage businesses for sexual favors and money with threats that their businesses would be shut down or raided by police if they did not pay him for protection. Gerry had the authority to grant or deny permits, but also claimed to have connections with the San Jose Police Department's vice squad. He is now in the Elmwood Men's Facility of the Santa Clara County Jail. Gerry was previously charged in late September with one count of rape, three counts of oral copulation by force, seven counts of extortion, and three counts of soliciting bribes. In that case he is accused of extorting over $34,000 from a woman with claims that it was necessary for her business to maintain the proper permits that it needed to stay open. She said that he made her perform oral sex on him during several visits to her business and compelled her to have vaginal sex with him under the same duress. She said that Gerry would tell her when the SJPD vice unit planned to visit her business as part of an investigation into illegal sex work. Other businesses have claimed losses of more than $63,000 under similar circumstances. At least one other woman has reported being compelled to provide Gerry with sexual favors under similar circumstances. He was a code enforcement officer from 2007-2019. Denver Police Officer Matthew Graves Suspended for Racist Comments

Denver Police Officer Matthew Graves has been suspended for 10 days without pay for making racist comments about Spanish speakers in front of co-workers. In an October 27th letter justifying the suspension, Deputy Director of Safety Mary Dulacki described Graves' comments as "perjorative, disparaging and, therefore, derogatory" and said that they "were based upon actual or perceived national origin, were discriminatory and were in violation of the Department of Safety (Equal Employment Opportunity) Policy." The comments allegedly made by Graves included: - "This is America, and we speak English here." - "If you don't speak English either go home or back to Mexico." Graves said that his comments were meant as a joke. The officer that reported him said that she wasn't sure he really said what she thought she heard until three Spanish speaking janitors came up to her and said something about it. One of the people that heard his comments said that she is now less confident at work because she fears that people will be mad at her for speaking Spanish. Graves claims that he was not aware that there were three Spanish speaking people within auditory range of him at the time. Officer Graves made the news last year for surviving a hit and run accident. In that case he was described as a technician and not an officer. We do not know if the driver was Spanish speaking or what impact if any that has on his suspension. Christiansburg Police Officer Ethan Havens Arrested for Child Porn

Former Christiansburg Police Officer Ethan Havens has been arrested on child pornography charges after Twitter tipped off police that images he shared had been flagged as child pornography. Investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force subpoena'd Twitter for the user's account information, traced that information to Officer Havens, seized Havens' computer, and charged him with five counts of possessing, reproducing, or distributing child pornography. According to media reports, Havens sent pictures of himself in uniform to another Twitter user via direct private messages. That user responded by sending him nude images of a girl under 18 years of age. It is not clear whether or not those picture were of that user or some other person. Kenosha ADA Thomas Binger Leading the Persecution of Kyle Rittenhouse

Kenosha ADA Thomas Binger was leading the charge in court earlier today against Kyle Rittenhouse by getting him held on a king's ransom of $2,000,000 on two counts of murder despite the fact that video evidence clearly shows that Rittenhouse was defending himself (https://ift.tt/31DJRHK). We reviewed the criminal complaint as well as the video footage of the incident in correct chronological order and concluded that Rittenhouse was defending himself. We at Cop Blaster hate blue backers, so we would normally not advocate for a Back the Blue supporter like Rittenhouse, but what we hate even more is charging people with crimes they did not commit. That is why we are supporting Rittenhouse's self defense claims in this case. We believe that he was attacked by Joseph Rosenbaum, a convicted sex offender with a prior conviction for molesting a minor (https://ift.tt/2QpqQCq), was running from Rosenbaum trying his best to flee, and only shot him when Rosenbaum closed within feet of him. It was after that self defense shooting that people started chasing him down the street yelling stuff like "he just shot somebody," "beat him up," and "get him" before he fell, Anthony Huber hit him in the head with a skateboard, and only then did Rittenhouse start shooting. The arguments made by Mr. Binger and others on the government's side today painted the opposite picture. Most vocal was John Huber, the father of Anthony Huber. He lied to the court by saying "he was two businesses away when he chased that guy down and shot him in the head." Unfortunately, there is next to nothing that defense lawyers can do about people lying in court at bail hearings, especially if they are named as victims in a case or are family members dead named victims. Mr. Huber's statements were not under oath, so he can't be charged with perjury. Defense lawyers are always hesitant to call people like Huber out in court out because judges are more likely to get mad at them for attacking a "victim" than they are to discount what the "victim" said. This allows anyone named as a "victim" by the government to use bail hearings as a soap box to spread lies with impunity. Huber's comments were followed by those of attorney Kimberly Motley on behalf of Gaige Grosskreutz. Grosskreutz was the armed man whose arm was nearly shot off after pulling a gun on Rittenhouse. Grosskreutz has become a bit of a media drama queen since the incident going around crying about his arm. Motley said that her client feared for his safety, that Rittenhouse is a flight risk, danger to the community, etc., and although she made some statements of opinion that we do not agree with, we could not identify any materially false statements. Court Commissioner Loren Keating then set bail at $2,000,000 noting that the charges are serious and Rittenhouse had left the state only to be returned after contested extradition hearings. The amount of $2,000,000 is not unusual when a defendant faces two counts of murder, especially for the first appearance, so we don't think Keating did anything out of the ordinary by setting it so high. If anything, this bail amount shows one of many flaws in the system. A system where a defendant will lose at least a year of his life to pretrial detention despite clear and convincing video evidence showing that he acted in self defense. It is the job of prosecutors like Binger to make their decisions based on the law and the evidence, not public opinion. Just because there is an enormous public outcry demanding something be done does not justify doing something. People that disagree with us typically argue irrelevancies like his gun being illegally possessed, him traveling across state lines, or the fact that he knew his presence would be unwelcome. None of those things forfeited his right to self defense. He had a duty to retreat, which he did his best to do, and that was it. The only chance the government has at a conviction is if they get an unreasonable jury that votes with their hearts instead of their minds like most jurors do. That is why it is on prosecutors not to make charging decisions based on what they think most jurors would want because most jurors want what they want and don't care about the law. Due to a complete lack of proper checks and balances at the trial court level this case will most likely be left in the hands of an incompetent jury to decide. That is of course unless Rittenhouse gets a good judge in which case a judge trial would be better. A good judge would conclude that there is zero evidence of Rittenhouse provoking people for the specific purpose of provoking a response that would justify self defense. That is the only way that Rittenhouse's conduct could legally not be considered self defense. People say to us online that his presence alone was the provocation. If that argument were to work in court it would mean that nobody who open carries could legally defend themselves if they do it around people they know would be offended by their presence. Cincinnati Police Officer Quianna Campbell Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud

Cincinnati Police Officer Quianna Campbell pled guilty to tax fraud charges in federal court today. She admitted that she filed false tax return from 2015-17 that failed to report $60,000 in off-duty income. The charges appear to be retaliation for her doing the right thing during a money laundering investigation. In 2015 investigators discovered a text message exchange between her and a local nightclub owner. The nightclub owner asked her if a specific individual was an undercover cop and she responded by saying that he was. When asked about the text she lied. For that lie she was charged with making a false statement to a federal officer. That charge was dismissed as part of her plea agreement. The nightclub was under investigation for money laundering. We do not know how much of her unreported off duty income came from the night club. Campbell now faces up to 12 years in federal prison. Her policing powers were stripped away in 2018, but technically she is still a CPD employee that is suspended without pay. Ex-Kaplan Police Officer Casey Hoffman Arrested on Child Sex Charges

Now ex-Kaplan Police Officer Casey Hoffman was arrested this past week on charges of first degree rape of a child under the age of 13, production of child pornography involving a child under the age of 13, and possession of child pornography featuring children under the age of 13. Not much has been made public beyond that, but that is enough to say that this ex-cop is in a lot of trouble. In prison the two worst things someone can be are a cop or a child molester. Being both means that Casey Jay Hoffman will spend a lot of time in solitary confinement for his own safety. If he is lucky he might get sent to a protective custody yard, but even then he is likely to get stabbed by a child molester that he put in there. His future look like it will be a living hell.
