The Memphis Police Department just released a graphic video showing the murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis Police officers Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills, Jr. and Justin Smith. James City County Police officer Michael Trenton Rusk was arrested today for shooting fellow officer Christopher Gibson while off-duty. He is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on charges of malicious wounding but will probably be released soon on bail, bond, or pre-trial supervision. The James City County Police Department has placed Rusk on unpaid administrative leave. Not much is known about the incident other than Rusk and Gibson knowing each other. Gibson was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive. Gibson was arraigned yesterday and his next court date has been scheduled for February 16th. Charles F. McGonigal was a counterintelligence agent in charge of the FBI's New York Field Office during the Trump administration. Today he stands accused of accepting over $225,000 from a foreign intelligence officer, laundering the money, and lying about it. This is a breaking story with details constantly emerging. What we know so far is that McGonigal faces a nine count indictment (see PDF link above map) charging him with violating three federal statutes against concealment of material facts (18 U.S.C. 1001(a)(1)), making false statements (18 U.S.C. 1001(a)(2)), and falsification of documents (18 U.S.C. 1519). McGonigal was arrested over the weekend and is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn (MDC Brooklyn). The video below and media accounts of this case accuse McGonigal of violating Russian sanctions but the indictment does not actually charge him with a crime for that. It seems the bulk of the government's case lies not in his acceptance of the money but rather his failure to disclose it by misstating his assets on forms he was required to fill out as either part of his job or to keep his security clearance after retiring in 2018. It was in 2017 that McGonigal is alleged to have begun colluding with a group of Albanian men including a former intelligence officer residing in New Jersey and an advisor to the Albanian Prime Minister. McGonigal is alleged to have done them several favors while traveling across Europe during that time, but he mysteriously appears to only be charged with lying about the money and failing to disclose his dealings with foreign nationals. The FBI's press release accuses McGonigal of "engaging in other conduct in his official capacity as an FBI Special Agent in Charge that he believed would benefit the businessperson financially" so we are surprised not to see any charges related to accepting bribes or engaging in official misconduct. It is really odd to see someone accused of so much charged with merely concealing or lying about what he is accused of. It makes one wonder why he didn't just fill out the forms accurately if he didn't have to worry about facing charges for admitting to accepting the money or reciprocating with favors. According to media reports, McGonigal was responsible for investigating allegations of Russian collusion in the 2016 election. He is also accused of conspiring with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska in various way (https://ift.tt/HrNamC1). Deripaska was sanctioned in 2018 and has been repeatedly accused of violating those sanctions since. This has led the left-wing media to paint this case as the result of Russian collusion, but the indictment does not support such claims. The indictment merely accuses McGonigal of lying about money given to him by an Albanian and his ties to other Albanians. Just because Albanians speak with Slavic accents does not make them Russian. The closest thing this case has to do with Russian collusion is the defendant also being investigated for Russian collusion. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Charles F. McGonigal is a 54 year old white male with the registration number 91495-054. He will likely seek pretrial release in the near future. His release will likely be granted unless the government can show by clear and convincing evidence that he is a flight risk or danger to the community. If denied release he will likely remain at MDC Brooklyn where Jeffrey Epstein allegedly killed himself. We will be watching this case and will likely update this article in the future. Miami-Dade Police officer Laquandra Luster was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm and battery Sunday after allegedly pulling her service weapon on her ex-boyfriend during a heated argument. The media has not said exactly what the argument was about but the two of them have a child together so that probably had sometime to do with it. The Miami-Dade Police Department was quick to release a boiler plate statement of disappointment not worth reading which claimed such behavior by officers will not be tolerated. The MDPD is making their intolerance clear by keeping Luster on the force and continuing to pay her while she remains suspended pending the outcome of the case. According to the video below, Luster is accused of striking her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy several times with her weapon in addition to pointing it at him. It sounds like she pistol whipped him but we only have the snippet of the report from the video to go on. The video also describes Luster as demanding her car keys and smashing an electronic device. The victim told police he recorded the incident and feared for his life, but we have not seen any footage of the incident. We would be surprised if the aggravated assault with a firearm charge sticks because she is not accused of firing the weapon. She might still get stuck with an aggravated assault conviction for using a blunt object as a weapon and causing someone injuries, but usually charging someone with a firearms based assault when no shots are fired defeats the purpose of having enhanced punishments for firearms based assaults in the first place. The La Vergne Police Department in Tennessee has fired officer Maegan Hall for cheating on her husband many times on and off duty with fellow officers. A total of eight officers including Hall were reprimanded, four of those other officers were fired for having sex with Hall while on duty, a fifth officer was suspended for hosting an off-duty hot tub party at his house where Hall took off her top in front of fellow officers' wives after drinking heavily, and two others were suspended for things like exchanging intimate images with Hall and lying during the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed and no laws appear to be broken, but the LVPD has rules against such things hence the firings and suspensions. One look at Hall is all it takes to realize why law enforcement officers are notorious for engaging in inappropriate sexual activity with members of the public like prostitutes and the homeless. Police departments are predominately male and female officers don't look nearly as good in real life as they do on TV . A plain Jane like Hall can quickly find herself the center of attention for the first time in her life and get carried away. News coverage does not say why Hall chose to become the office skank, but it does indicate that several officers expressed concerns about Hall's mental health. A lot of police officers suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. People suffering from PTSD, depression, and other mental health conditions are known to become hypersexual at times. This could explain her behavior but she could just be promiscuous. Shields claimed to have gotten head from Hall in the LVPD gym, Magliocco claimed his wife was in an open relationship with Hall, McGowan admitted sending Hall pictures of his penis, and Lugo-Perez initially denied having sex with Hall but eventually admitted to a rendezvous at Go Cart USA in Murfreesboro. Addis Police officer David Cauthron was arrested yesterday for killing two teenage girls on New Year's Eve. Maggie Dunn, 17, and Caroline Gill, 15, were minding their own business when officer Cauthron slammed his patrol car into them while trying to keep up with another vehicle alleged to have been traveling as fast as 110 MPH. He now faces two counts of negligent homicide and one count of recklessly injuring a third person. He was booked into West Baton Rouge Parish Prison on $100,000 bail where he remains in custody but that is likely to change. The Addis Police Department has suspended Cauthron from duty. Despite this being absolutely 100% Cauthron's fault for voluntarily engaging in a high speed pursuit, the target of the pursuit is also being charged despite not having anything to do with the deaths other than being Cauthron's motive for driving recklessly. Cauthron was attempting to kidnap Tyquel Zanders for allegedly stealing the car he was driving. Police officers always have the option not to kidnap a person regardless of what that person is accused of. If that person chooses to flee that doesn't make anything the officer does trying to catch them their fault. When officers screw up and hurt bystanders they rarely take responsibility for their choices and elect instead to blame their targets as if someone in Cauthron's position had no choice but to chase Zanders. Cauthron voluntarily became a police officer, voluntarily chose to work that day, and chose of his own free will to drive so fast he alone ended up killing two innocent people. If officers don't like being blamed whenever they hurt innocent people in the name of pursuing suspects they shouldn't pursue them at all. We hope that Zanders beats his case and Cauthron is held accountable to the fullest extent allowed by law. If an officer fires his weapon at a suspect, misses, and hits an innocent person, do they charge the suspect as if he himself pulled the trigger? This charge against Zanders is equally absurd. Zanders did not force Cauthron to chase him. Possessing a stolen car is not an emergency worth risking people's lives over, so if an officer sees his target driving so fast that the officer cannot safely keep up they're supposed to call of the pursuit or at least limit themselves to speeds they themselves can handle during the pursuit. They can always file more charges later so when the suspect finally is arrested he will get a harsher sentence. Choosing to drive too fast is always the officer's choice. If this were a shooting, we would argue that an officer is never forced to fire his gun unless the suspect has a weapon and is attempting to use it on the officer. In a situation like that we would consider an allegation that the suspect forced him to officer to fire his gun to have merit, but otherwise shooting at the suspect while probably technically legal would still be a voluntary act. When someone voluntarily does something the result is their fault.
